Dataverse implements external value-addition resources by allowing configurations that match file types with external applications. These configurations, however, are not transferable to other services or based on any common identifiers for either file types or the value-added applications (tools) that are referenced. It is also laborious to maintain, as the configurations must be individually updated by curators and system developers when new options become available, and they are only operational following a new deployment to production environments.

• Automate the linking of data file types and tools by maintaining such links in an external catalogue
• Develop a single value-adding application that is configured once, and always up-to-date by reading information from the catalogue of tools

The value-adding application will read tool-file type matches from the EOSC Data Commons Catalogue of Tools and, depending on the end user’s selection, utilise the Request Packager to forward packages to the appropriate platforms for deployment. DANS will approach the providers to advocate for the adoption of the specifications developed by EOSC Data Commons for the Data Player.
