Open Call: Test the EOSC Data Commons Services

EOSC Data Commons invites organisations outside the consortium to express their interest in testing the first release of its services: EOSC Matchmaker and EOSC Data Player.

This open call aims to engage early adopters and gather feedback to help shape the services as they mature. Participants will have the opportunity to explore new ways to discover, access, and integrate research data within the European Open Science Cloud.

What is being offered

Selected participants will be invited to test early versions of:

EOSC Matchmaker, which supports federated discovery of research data and tools across disciplines using rich metadata and knowledge graph technologies.
EOSC Data Player: after pairing a tool with a dataset using the EOSC Matchmaker, EOSC Data Player will create the necessary execution environment for the selected tool and dataset across a wide range of computing engines.

The focus of this first open testing phase is on discovery, metadata integration, and basic interoperability workflows, rather than full production-level integration.

Scope of the first release (June)

The first public release, planned for June 2026, will support the integration of data repositories that expose metadata via:

OAI-PMH
DataCite metadata schema

Repositories and services that rely on other interfaces, APIs, or implement different metadata standards are welcome to express interest. However, their technical integration will be scheduled for later releases of EOSC Data Commons services.

By clearly staging integrations over time, the project aims to ensure a robust and sustainable onboarding process while progressively expanding the range of supported technologies and communities.

Who Should Apply

We welcome expressions of interest from:

Data repository managers interested in testing federated discovery and interoperability mechanisms.
Research infrastructures and service providers willing to experiment with early EOSC Data Commons services.
Researchers and research communities interested in exploring cross-disciplinary data discovery.
Tool and service developers looking to understand future integration opportunities.
EOSC Nodes (existing and prospective) willing to learn the capabilities of EOSC Data Commons services.

Previous experience with EOSC or federated infrastructures is not required, but participants should be aware that the services are under active development and should be considered pre-production.

What Participants Can Expect

Participants in this open call will:

Gain early access to EOSC Data Commons services.
Be able to test discovery and access workflows using their own metadata where applicable.
Provide feedback that will directly inform future releases and priorities.
Engage with the EOSC Data Commons team during the testing phase.

Please note that this phase is exploratory and iterative: not all feature requests or integration needs can be addressed immediately.
